SailGP returned to Portsmouth in July 2025 with a thrilling display of speed, skill, and cutting-edge sailing. Thousands of fans packed the waterfront, creating an electric atmosphere as national teams raced at breathtaking speeds just metres from shore. The vibe was unbeatable—sun, sea, and sailing drama combined for an unforgettable weekend in one of the UK’s most iconic maritime cities.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite the fairytale ending for the home crowd. Dylan Fletcher’s Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team impressed on day one but was ultimately overtaken by Peter Burling’s Black Foils. New Zealand took the win, while Britain settled for second place.

SailGP is among the most thrilling racing on water—a global championship where national teams compete in identical, cutting-edge 50-foot foiling catamarans at iconic locations worldwide. Reaching speeds of nearly 100 km/h (60 mph), these high-performance boats are piloted by the world’s best sailors, all chasing national pride, personal achievement, and a $12 million prize. Powered by the elements—wind, sea, and sun—and driven by a commitment to sustainability, SailGP is not just a race, but a vision for a better future.

One of the great aspects of SailGP is that every team is required to include at least one female athlete on board. This rule ensures that women are not only visible in elite sailing but actively involved in the action. It’s a powerful step toward gender equality in a traditionally male-dominated sport and may inspire more women and girls to pursue careers in professional sailing and marine technology.
