Ferrari Presents Hypersail: Pioneering Efficiency and Speed on the Oceans

Ferrari has announced its most ambitious venture beyond the racetrack: Hypersail, a revolutionary 100-foot offshore racing yacht designed to push the boundaries of performance, efficiency, and endurance on the open ocean. Currently under construction in Italy, the vessel is scheduled to launch in 2026, ahead of its first sea trials.

At the heart of Hypersail is a groundbreaking innovation—the canting keel doubles as a support for one of the yacht’s foils, working in tandem with a rudder foil and alternating lateral foils. This radical design enables the yacht to “fly” across the water, combining speed with stability in a way never before attempted at this scale.

Equally remarkable is Hypersail’s commitment to total energy self-sufficiency. It will be the first yacht of its size to operate entirely on renewable energy, harnessing power from solar, wind, and kinetic sources. With no combustion engine on board, every onboard system—from foil and rudder control to advanced computing—must be powered autonomously, even in the most demanding offshore conditions.

Ferrari Chairman John Elkann described Hypersail as “a new challenge that pushes us to expand our technological horizons,” drawing direct inspiration from Ferrari’s Hypercar, three-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. For Elkann, Hypersail is the ultimate expression of endurance, blending racing DNA with ocean exploration.

The project is being led on the water by legendary sailor Giovanni Soldini, who called Hypersail “an exciting challenge, backed by a truly unique team.” Soldini highlighted not only the revolutionary structure and flight systems but also Ferrari’s pioneering role in developing onboard control technologies never before applied to yachting.

A spirit of open innovation lies at the core of Hypersail. Ferrari’s expertise in aerodynamics, energy efficiency, and advanced control systems is being transferred directly from sports cars to the nautical world. Already, nine patents have been filed with six more underway—proof of the project’s capacity to generate solutions that benefit both sailing and automotive performance.

By uniting endurance sailing with Ferrari’s culture of relentless innovation, Hypersail is more than a yacht—it is a statement of intent. If successful, it will redefine what is possible at sea: a 100-foot racing machine that flies across oceans without burning a drop of fuel.
