Dayboats & Runabouts: Standouts from a Summer on the Mediterranean

As the European summer draws to a close and the boat-show season moves into autumn, Cannes offered a fitting showcase for a particularly strong generation of dayboats and runabouts. Design, performance and versatility increasingly overlap in a sector extending from elegant Mediterranean cruisers to serious high-performance machines.

Frauscher remains one of the prestigious names in the category, with beautifully designed and instantly recognisable boats. Its impressive range includes the Mirage, Demon, Ghost and Spectre, alongside the new Frauscher x Porsche eFantom, bringing Porsche electric technology into Frauscher’s distinctive performance-boat philosophy.

American performance specialist MTI marked an important milestone at Cannes with its first-ever European boat-show exhibition, presenting two boats. Long established in the US performance market, MTI combines formidable speed and handling with striking design, generous deck space and increasingly sophisticated finishes. The result is not simply a high-speed boat, but a compelling luxury dayboat and an impressive performance tender for larger yachts.

Greek builder Technohull was another strong presence. Its range combines high-performance hull design with the comfort, finish and styling expected in today’s premium dayboat market, creating boats equally suited to fast cruising and superyacht tender duties.

It was also great to see Kumbra Yachts again. The young Spanish company continues to impress with fresh, confident design and beautifully conceived boats. Its enthusiastic and highly engaged team adds a welcome personality to this emerging brand.

Axopar was again strongly represented, while Saxdor showcased several new launches, illustrating the continuing pace of development in the sector.

From elegant runabouts to 70-knot-plus performance boats, today’s dayboat market has become a particularly interesting meeting point for design, engineering, performance and lifestyle.
