Expedition Yachts in Focus at Monaco Yacht Show 2026

Expedition yachts are firmly in focus at the Monaco Yacht Show 2026, reflecting a broader shift in what owners expect from their yachts: greater range, independence and the ability to explore well beyond established yachting destinations.

Builders including Oceanco, Cantiere delle Marche, Damen Yachting, LĂĽrssen, Turquoise Yachts and Arksen illustrate the increasingly diverse approaches to exploration and long-range cruising. From specialist explorer builders to some of the world’s leading superyacht yards, greater autonomy and global capability are increasingly being combined with exceptional levels of luxury.

What is changing is not simply where these yachts can go, but what owners expect to do when they arrive. The yacht is increasingly becoming a base for exploration. Larger and faster tenders, helicopters, submersibles, diving equipment, kayaks and other specialist equipment can extend the experience far beyond the mothership.

Technology is evolving alongside this. Advanced communications, navigation and monitoring, energy management, water production and waste systems support longer periods away from conventional infrastructure. Range, storage, redundancy, maintainability and technical resilience become particularly important when operating far from established ports.

Newer entrants are also bringing different thinking. British company Arksen, founded in 2017, has focused specifically on adventure and exploration.

Perhaps the more interesting question at Monaco is what genuinely makes an expedition yacht. Explorer styling is increasingly popular, but a rugged profile and large aft deck are not enough. Genuine capability depends on the engineering beneath the surface.

As owners look towards Greenland, Antarctica, remote islands and less accessible coastlines, the ultimate luxury is increasingly not simply the yacht itself, but where it can take you – and what becomes possible once you arrive.
