Monaco Yacht Show Blue Wake™ Awards 2025: A Clear Signal for Sustainable Innovation in Yachting
Celebrating Sustainability at the Monaco Yacht Show
The Monaco Yacht Show has long been the stage for global launches and pioneering concepts. This year, it also reaffirmed its role as a driver of sustainability. At last night’s Grand Opening Night at Le Méridien Beach Plaza, the show unveiled the winners of the Blue Wake™ Awards 2025, highlighting projects that companies position as real steps toward reducing yachting’s environmental footprint.
With 400 guests in attendance – including Monaco officials, leading sponsors, private clients, and industry stakeholders – the ceremony underscored the growing importance of sustainability as a mainstream topic in yachting.
Developed with the Water Revolution Foundation, the Blue Wake Awards are framed as a recognition of credible, high-impact solutions. According to the organisers, submissions were assessed against strict criteria, supported by data, and in some cases third-party verification. The five winners reflect a diverse cross-section of approaches, spanning propulsion, fuels, shipbuilding, interior products, and yacht design.
Industry Leaders Present Their Innovations
TYKUN – Hydrogen Propulsion for Tenders
Italian company TYKUN received recognition for its H1 hydrogen propulsion system, which the firm describes as “ready for production” and capable of delivering high performance with lower environmental impact. TYKUN emphasises the combination of efficiency, innovation, and customisation as a foundation of its sustainable technology approach.
Tai Ping – Biophilic Interiors
Luxury carpet maker Tai Ping was honoured for its Biophilic Programme, a line of rugs produced from undyed, biodegradable fibres such as wool, silk, flax, and jute. The company states that eliminating the dyeing process reduces water consumption by 60% and energy use by 85%, while lowering carbon emissions. Tai Ping highlights the programme as a durable and eco-friendly alternative to synthetic materials.
Deasyl – Next-Generation Yachting Fuel
Swiss innovator Deasyl earned distinction for its Sustainable Yachting Fuel. The company positions the fuel as a “next-generation alternative” to fossil fuels, produced via low-energy green chemistry processes. Deasyl reports reductions in CO₂ emissions of up to 93%, describing the product as an example of responsible innovation and waste valorisation.
Sanlorenzo – Fuel Cell Integration
Shipyard Sanlorenzo was recognised for introducing the world’s first superyacht equipped with Reformer Fuel Cell systems, developed with Siemens Energy. The company states that the system, which uses hydrogen from green methanol, provides up to 100 kW of emission-free electricity while at anchor and reduces overall annual emissions by 20–30%. Sanlorenzo frames the project as a significant step in its long-term sustainability strategy.
Silver Yachts – Special Jury Award
The Special Jury Award was granted to Silver Yachts for its aluminium catamaran Reduce, designed by Espen Oeino International. The company emphasises the vessel’s recyclable construction, multi-hull efficiency, and lightweight aluminium design. According to Silver Yachts, the project prioritises operational efficiency and reduced environmental impact, using recycled and recyclable materials wherever possible.
Sustainability as a Business Strategy
The Blue Wake™ Awards 2025 highlight how sustainability is being integrated into business strategies across the superyacht sector. From propulsion systems and fuels to interiors and naval architecture, companies are increasingly positioning their innovations as part of the solution to yachting’s environmental challenges.
By focusing on verifiable impact and credible solutions, the Monaco Yacht Show and the Water Revolution Foundation are signalling that sustainability is not only a reputational imperative but also a competitive differentiator.
